About
The Department of Physics at Fırat University was originally established under the Faculty of Science in the 1977–1978 academic year as the “Physics Engineering Department.” Following the enactment of Law No. 2547 on Higher Education, it was restructured as the “Department of Physics” under the Faculty of Science and Letters. Today, the department boasts 13 professors, 4 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, 5 research assistants, and 2 administrative staff members.
Our primary goals include providing students with an in-depth understanding of the theoretical framework of physics, cultivating experimental skills, and enabling them to apply these competencies in everyday life. Through our master’s and doctoral programs, we also contribute to training researchers and academics, thereby supporting the country’s scientific advancement. The department conducts research in High Energy and Plasma Physics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Solid-State Physics, Nuclear Physics, and General Physics, having produced over 1,000 publications in national and international journals. Covering an area of 1,200 square meters, our four well-equipped laboratories offer students hands-on experience to complement their theoretical knowledge. The projects and academic activities we undertake actively encourage student participation in scientific research and innovation.
Our mission is to be recognized for high-quality education and impactful national and international research, thereby contributing to both the country’s economic growth and the resolution of local and global challenges. We aim to educate physicists with strong ethical and professional awareness, capable of effective interdisciplinary collaboration, adept in tackling emerging scientific problems, and conscious of environmental sustainability. By employing the most up-to-date teaching methods, we support the theoretical and practical development of our students, ensuring they can engage in productive partnerships with national and international stakeholders.
We envision becoming a department renowned for excellence in both education and research on a national and international scale. By focusing on problem-solving, fostering innovation, and producing new knowledge, we strive to train students who will contribute significantly to societal progress. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment to continuous improvement, our goal is to develop highly qualified physicists who can meet the evolving demands of the future and serve as leaders in their respective fields.
